Description

Understanding neoliberalism in the postsocialist region” to be held at King’s College London on Mon 17 March 2014. This free one-day workshop is designed to provide an informal and supportive space for researchers of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union to consider and perhaps re-consider how neoliberalism is implicated in their own work. We aim for approximately 30 participants to ensure relaxed discussion and networking.

10.45-11.30: Coffee

11.30-12.15: Vikki Turbine, University of Glasgow – everyday rights/political sociology, Russia

12.15-13.00: Teodor Mladenov, King’s College London - public policy/disability, Bulgaria

13.00-13.45: Lunch

13.45-14.30: Nicolette Makovicky, University of Oxford – liberalization, citizenship, enterprise, labour and gender relations, Slovakia and Poland

14.30-15.15: Balihar Sanghera, University of Kent – sociology and ethics, moral economy of practices, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

15.15-15.45: Coffee

15.45-16.30: Michael Rasell, University of Lincoln – anthropology of welfare state, Russia

16.30-17.15: Armine Ishkanian, London School of Economics – development/civil society, Armenia

17.15-17.30: Final reflections
