In the laboratory of the Italian Bulgarianist

Venue
: Villa Mirafiori, via Carlo Fea 2, Rome (Italy)
Period
: May 27-28, 2011

Program

The chair of South Slavic Languages and Literature of the Department of European, American and Intercultural Studies of the University “La Sapienza” is organizing the a workshop for Italian Bulgarianists and Bulgarian Italianists on May 27-28, 2011 entitled In the laboratory of the Italian Bulgarianist. The year 2011 is the 100th anniversary of P.P. Slavejkov’s arrival in Roma, where he came after being dismissed from his post as Director of the Naroden Teatar, preferring self-exile to accepting the Philistine logic of those who endeavoured – through him – to attack his country’s culture.

The purpose of the workshop is to confirm the centrality and value of humanistic research at a very difficult time for learning in all European countries, but also to vitalize Bulgarian studies in Italy and Italian studies in Bulgaria. Furthermore, and just as important, the aim is to give colleagues in the same or similar disciplinary fields an opportunity to exchange views and knowledge.

In addition to those interested Italian Bulgarianists and Bulgarian Italianists who will be taking part with original and autonomous contributions, students and doctoral candidates will also have a session entirely dedicated to their work.

The title of the event reflects the desire to emphasize the artisan dimension of the meeting, that is, the will of scholars – albeit under extremely difficult political and cultural conditions – to continue working for the sake of the humanities and to reconfirm that every nation’s cultural identity necessarily depends on that of the others.

The language of the meeting is Italian.
