Name in Lithuanian: Žmogaus teisių stebėjimo institutas

Human Rights Monitoring Institute (HRMI) acts as an independent mechanism for scrutiny of state policies, lawmaking and human rights practices by daily monitoring of public and relevant private institutions’ activities, and public reactions to actual and potential human rights violations;  HRMI implements long-term programs and projects taking into account the importance of specific human rights to the furtherance and consolidation of an open democratic society and human rights culture, and susceptibility of particular groups to abuse and correlating limited ability to defend rights.

HRMI also carries out research, prepares conclusions and recommendations, and introduces the results of research and recommendations to the general public and state institutions. Also initiates strategic litigation, presents alternative reports to international human rights institutions, and implements awareness-raising and educational campaigns to inform Lithuanian society about the importance and the content of human rights and defence means thereof.
