EU-Russia Relations through International Society Theory

Conference venue: Stockholm (Sweden)
Period:  September 9-11, 2010
Deadline for submitting abstracts:  February 20, 2010

Notification of acceptance of the abstracts: March 5, 2010

Description of the conference

Accompanying the panel discussion at the SGIR pan-European Conference in Stockholm in September 2010, the objective is now to compose a special issue on “EU-Russia Relations through International Society Theory” in Journal of Contemporary European Research (JCER) Summer 2011. In particular the panel proposes to examine the question of the EU-Russia relationship from an International Society Theory (English School). The relationship between the two areas has encountered numerous stumbling blocks, especially because of the lack of collective bargaining power among the states. Thus the main questions are: can the EU and Russia exist under the same rule of law? Can the Eastern enlargement encourage EU member states to find common ground for cooperation with Russia? Or the two systems are so different that a new international institutional order is necessary to govern relations between them?
