Name in Estonian: Avatud Eesti Fond

The Open Estonia Foundation is a non-governmental organization that was founded in April 1990, with the support of the philanthropist George Soros.

The mission of the organization is the development of an open society in Estonia and the promotion of democracy, civil society, social responsibility, and equal opportunities in the processes of decision making. Furthermore it promotes important open society issues both within and beyond Estonia's borders, such as multiculturalism, health care reform, encouragement of citizen participation in national politics.

The Open Estonia Foundation has also contributed in advancing cross-cultural understanding among Estonia’s ethnic populations, in particular between the Russia minority and the Estonians. In addition, it works in order to increase citizen participation in EU decision-making through activities and public debates and promoting media campaigns around EU issues.
