University of Banja Luka

Name in Serbian: Универзитет у Бањој Луци

Description:  The University of Banja Luka has been established on 7th November 1975. It consists of 16 faculties: Academy of Arts, Faculty of Academy of Arts, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Forestry, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Political Sciences and Faculty of Mine Engineering. 
 
The University of Banja Luka has 52 licensed study programs: Painting Art, Music Art, Drama Art, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geodesy, Economics, Computer Science and Informatics, Electronics and Telecommunications, Electro-Energetic and Industrial Systems, Production Engineering, Energy and Traffic, Industrial Engineering, Safety on Works, Mechatronics, Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Care, Stomatology, Animal Production, Plant Production, Agro-Economy and Rural Development, Law, Biology, Geography, Mathematics and Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Ecology and Protection of Environment, Space Planning, Mine Engineering, Chemical Technology, Bio-Technology Nutrition, Textile Engineering, Journalism, Social Work, Sociology, Political Sciences, Sports, General-teachers of Physical Education, Serbian Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, German Language and Literature, Italian Language and Literature and Serbian Language and Literature, French Language and Literature, Philosophy, Psychology, Pedagogy, History, Class Education, Preeshool Education and Forestry.
 
We have 643 academic staff, 466 external associates and 476 administrative staff members currently employed at the University. 
Structure of academic staff:
- 76 full professors;
- 84 associate professors;
- 105 assistant professors;
- 178 senior assistants;
- 195 assistants;
- 5 lectors.
 
At present there are 17 275 students at the University. The number of students that obtained their degree is as follows: more than 19000 graduates, 700 specialists, 650 M.A. degree holders and 300 PhD holders. 
 
As of 1st January 2008 the University of Banja Luka is integrated, with faculties as organizational units. 
The Steering Board, Senate and Rector govern the University. The Rector legally represents the University. There are four Vice-Rectors (in charge of: research and scientific work, international relations, teaching and student issues and human resources). The Steering Board is the managerial body of the University. It consists of eleven members-five representatives of academic staff, one representative of non-academic staff, one representative of students and four appointed by the government. The University Senate is the highest academic body, which discusses all academic issues and has twenty-six members–one representative of academic staff from each organizational unit (16), five representatives of students, Rector and four Vice-Rectors.
 
The Banja Luka University staff has been involved in 65 Tempus projects, several FP6 projects and two FP7 projects. The other international projects were financed by: the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the United States of America, United Nations, UNESCO/CEPES, the World Bank, governments of several states. Moreover the University of Banja Luka is bound by more than 100 bilateral agreements on cooperation with public and private universities from all over the world.
The University of Banja Luka is participating since the academic 2008/2009 year in CEEPUS programme of exchange.
