9th SCRSS Russian Language Seminar 2017

Venue: Society for Co-operation in Russian & Soviet Studies 320 Brixton Road, London SW9 6AB
Period: Saturday 8 - Sunday 9 April 2017

The two-day intensive seminar offers a stimulating lecture programme in Russian, aimed at teachers, translators and interpreters of Russian, final-year undergraduates and graduates of Russian, and all those with an advanced-level comprehension of spoken Russian and an interest in contemporary Russia.

The lecture programme has two parallel streams:

  • Russian language and linguistics: led by Tatiana Piotrovskaya
  • Russian literary and cultural scene: led by Vadim Levental

Tatiana Piotrovskaya

Tatiana has taught at St Petersburg State University (formerly Leningrad State University) since 1973. Her current teaching programme covers all aspects of contemporary English and includes two special courses: Aspects of Translating Business Texts and Historical and Cultural Life of Russia (Aspects of Translation, Linguistic and Cultural Studies). She has also previously taught Russian as a Foreign Language at the university. Tatiana's publications include Standard Versions of Written Exercises in Foreign Languages: Teaching Aid (2004). She was awarded a special Faculty of Philology bronze medal in 2002.

Since 2007 he has worked as an editor at Limbus Press, an independent publisher specialising in translations of the world's best authors and contemporary Russian fiction. Vadim has published as a literary critic and political commentator in numerous magazines, newspapers and websites. His debut novel Masha Regina (2012) was nominated for the Russian Booker Prize and shortlisted by the Big Book Award jury; it was published by Oneworld Publications in English in 2016.
