Autobiographical Writings in an Interdisciplinary Research Environment: Individuals, Texts and Practices

Description of the Conference

The conference is being organized by the Interdisciplinary autobiography study group of the Faculty of Humanities at the National Research University “Higher School of Economics.” The main goal of the conference is to explore possibilities of a common language in the study of autobiographical texts in various disciplines: cultural studies, history, philology, philosophy, anthropology, psychology, and sociology.

Eligible topics for the conference

The organisers of the conference are planning to run three thematic sessions:

  • The theory and history of studying first-person accounts;
  • Accounts about the self in Russia: new texts and new approaches;
  • Autobiographical writings in the countries of Western Europe: similarities and differences.

Working languages: Russian, English.
Length of papers: 20 minutes.
A publication based on the results of the conference is planned.

Guidelines for submission

There is a limited budget to help cover the transport costs and/or living expenses of some Russian participants, which will be distributed on a competitive basis.
A paper proposal including an abstract (up to 200 words) and an application form must be submitted by 15 April to: autobio.conference2016@gmail.com. The papers selected by the conference committee will be announced no later than 1 May.

Applications should include the following information:

  • Surname, name and patronymic.
  • Place of work/study
  • Title of paper + abstract
  • Mobile number
  • If relevant, the need for financial support with details of the reasons (transportation/accommodation) and an approximate amount.
