Visegrád School of Political Studies

Description

The Visegrád School of Political Studies is a joint project of the Council of Europe and the European Academy of Diplomacy in Warsaw that will bring together young politicians, civil society activists, journalists and civil servants from the countries of the Visegrád Group – Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia – for three multi-day seminars to help increase involvement in the democratic processes, foster exchange of know-how and strengthen regional cooperation among a new generation of Central European “movers and shakers”.

The goal of the program is to develop participants’ ability to identify and solve the complex challenges facing Central European societies and enhance capacity to shape and strengthen the democratic processes in their respective countries. The School will provide participants with the opportunity to establish a regional network of like-minded leaders, ready to take on greater responsibility for a more mature political culture in Central Europe and stronger leadership within the European Union. The program will support the Council of Europe mission of reinforcing democracy, human rights and rule of law on the European continent.

The Visegrad School of Political Studies will be held in the European Academy of Diplomacy located in Warsaw, Poland:

  • First session: 18 – 21 September 2013
  • Second session: 23 – 26 October 2013
  • Strasbourg World Forum for Democracy (non-obligatory participation) - 27 -29 November 2013
 


Eligibility

The VSPS will invite 28 young leaders between the ages of 21-35 from Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. Recruitment efforts will be directed to attract participants from political parties, civic organizations, public administration and media. The ideal candidate will have a proven track history of involvement and engagement within their community, demonstrating a leadership potential and desire to take an active role in positively shaping the world around them. The program will target a minimum of 50% female participants.
Recruitment Criteria

  • Minimum 21 years of age;
  • Minimum 1 year of working experience and proven track history of involvement and engagement within their community society (i.e. involvement in NGO sector, student’s unions, local and national political parties);
  • English language competency: C1.
 
 

Application Procedure

All applicants have to register online by filling the form and enclose a CV in Europass format as well as letter of motivation.  All applicants will be asked to take part in a phone interview.

 
 

Costs

The program is a 100% scholarship initiative, with all fees, materials and meals covered. Additionally, participants from Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia will be provided with accommodation in Warsaw.
