Master in Advanced European and International Studies 2016/17 - Mediterranean branch

Venues: Nice - Tunis - Istanbul
Period: October 2016 - July 2017
Application deadline: June 15, 2016

The Master in Advanced European and International Studies - Mediterranean branch is targeted at students who have completed their undergraduate studies. Its objective is to give an overarching, encompassing vision of the political, social, economic, and cultural challenges of today’s world. The Master’s programme follows an original approach which distinguishes it from other Master’s courses in European Studies and International Relations: The MAEIS is an international, interdisciplinary and itinerant programme which aims to educate the next generation of EuroMediterranean decision-makers. Following the slogan “Learning and living the Mediterranean”, the participants rotate each trimester, moving their place of studies from Nice to Tunis and then to Istanbul.

The Mediterranean branch of the Master in Advanced European and International Studies is a one-year programme, subdivided into three terms. It is taught in English and French and encompasses lectures that offer an extensive and interdisciplinary perspective on the European Union and its relationship with the Mediterranean area.

Overview of the year:
The first term in Nice encompasses classes on the basics of the five teaching modules (Conflict Management and Peace Making, Sustainable Development and Climate Action, Regional Integration and Transformation, Mediterranean Politics and Societies as well as Professional Skills Workshops). Studying in France helps students to analyse the Euro-Mediterranean relations and regional integration from an EU perspective.

The second term starts off in Tunis. Experts from the region and of different disciplines will analyse Euro-Mediterranean challenges in times of transformation and globalisation. A special focus will be put on youth policies in the Mediterranean. Studying in Tunisia will provide the students with a unique experience of a historic democratisation process that turns the country into a role model throughout the MENA region.

The programme concludes in Istanbul at our partner university, Istanbul Bilgi University. A special focus will be given to Sustainable Development and Climate Action, as well as to Project Management classes. The months of May and June are left at the students' disposal to work on their thesis. The programme concludes with the defence of the thesis and oral exams. With their graduation, students become part of CIFE’s wide Alumni network.
