Exeter is a centre for world-leading research across the Humanities. Exeter is a portal to a rich variety of resources for Humanities research. The University’s Special Collections hold unique archives of modern and contemporary literature including the papers of Henry Williamson and William Golding and the library of John Betjeman; they also hold the medieval manuscripts and early printed books of Syon Abbey. Active partnerships with a network of national and regional heritage organisations, museums, archives and libraries including the Historic England, National Trust, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and South West Heritage Trust give our researchers access to further exceptional facilities and materials for study.
The College of Humanities offers a dynamic, creative and, above all, supportive environment for research. A wide variety of dedicated research centres present opportunities for cross-disciplinary exchange; Humanities researchers lead on several themed projects which connect with research groups in the Social Sciences and STEMM. From this environment our doctoral and post-doctoral researchers have an enviable track record of onward employment in the sector.
Description of the Announcement
The aim of the British Academy in making these awards is to offer opportunities for outstanding early career researchers to strengthen their experience of research and teaching in a university environment which will develop their curriculum vitae and improve their prospects of obtaining permanent lecturing posts by the end of the Fellowship. The primary emphasis is on completion of a significant piece of publishable research, which will be assisted by full membership of an academic community of established scholars working in similar fields.
The fellowship attracts a salary at Grade F (£33,574 pa).
Eligibility requirements
- Applicants must be supported by the UK host institution in which they wish to hold the Fellowship.
- Applicants must be within three years of the award of a doctorate.
- Applicants must be a UK or EEA national, or have completed a doctorate at a UK university. Any applicant who does not fall into one of these categories must demonstrate a strong prior association with the UK academic community, for example through already having been employed in a temporary capacity (longer than twelve months) at a UK university.
Expressions of interest, including a 100-word abstract, a concise outline of the proposed research programme/plan of action (maximum 800 words), a summary of the intended outputs and a CV should be sent no later than 1 July 2016.
